It’s September. Hobonichi has dropped their 2027 planners, Traveler’s Company planners are available for pre-order and Leuchtturm1917 is emailing me about their offerings. Most of us see the first of January as the start of the year. But I confess, the calendar year does not suit me.
The calendar year begins in the middle of summer for me here in Australia. It is quite close to the start of the astronomical summer and as close as you can get based on the Gregorian Calendar. But summer to me feels like the wrong season.
My year starts in September, the start of meteorological spring. Not astronomical spring as this would create some difficulties for me. But the first of September is good enough for me. This is the point in the year that at least for my brain is the beginning of a new cycle. This does limit my options when it comes to planners.
Currently, I am using a Traveler’s Company undated monthly and undated weekly in the passport size. This allows me to start my year whenever I want and while not as nice as a predated planner such as the Hobonichi planners I have used in previous years, it gives me the flexibility I want to start my year now. (The paper is also a very nice writing experience!) I may be on an island here starting my year on the first of September, but it is a happy island.
No matter what your system is, I hope it keeps you happy too!
